How are you? May is always a busy month for folks -- graduations, weddings, holiday weekends, cleaning up the yard, and so much more. We hope that you are recuperating and enjoying these warm days.
Partnership with Hopkins School District
In our work, we rely heavily on the partnerships we create. These partnerships affect several avenues of our work – sharing in referrals with other local organizations, collecting donations for our Children & Youth Programs, sponsoring fundraising events, and much more. We create partnerships with other local organizations, schools, businesses, and individuals.
One of our stronger partnerships is with the Hopkins School District. In our May newsletter, we shared that the Hopkins School District and its employees were one of the driving forces that first started our organization. Since then, we have maintained a solid partnership. There are several ways that Hopkins School District partners with us.
Once the Back to School and Winter Warm Wear Programs have officially finished, we continue to directly supply the teachers, counselors, and staff with supplies they see students needing. This includes things like notebooks, pens or pencils, gloves, coats, and hats.
The preschool and school age childcare programs offered through the Hopkins School District are also two of our program partners for the Childcare & Academic Assistance Program. The Hopkins School District childcare programs work closely with ResourceWest staff to support Hopkins Schools families who are experiencing difficulty with managing the cost childcare tuition. The Hopkins School District accepts our 50% childcare scholarship on behalf of families, and works to connect families in their childcare programs to our organization who are in need of tuition support.
Our staff and Hopkins School District staff connect frequently to share information and updates about our programs and opportunities for support with families in their schools. They share the registration information for our Children & Youth Programs, as well as share information regarding other services and assistance that our Case Managers provide. Hopkins School District also invites us to participate in school sponsored resource fairs and events where we can connect families with the resources and assistance that ResourceWest provides.
Hopkins School District is a crucial bridge of communication from our organization to families we both serve. We are so grateful for our partnership with Hopkins School District, and the other organizations in our community that work with us on a regular basis!

From the Board:
Dan O'Reilly, Board of Directors President
Hello! My name is Dan O'Reilly and I am honored and consider it a privilege to have served on the board of ResourceWest for five years and currently as Board President. My wife, two children, and I have lived in Minnetonka for 20 years and our two children, now young adults, attended the Hopkins schools.
Our family has been committed to supporting ResourceWest for the past 12 years in various capacities: event planning, envelope stuffing, volunteering at Children and Youth Programs, consulting, marketing, serving on the board, and through financial donations. We value the work ResourceWest does right in our backyard to bring assistance and stability to individuals and families who need a boost.
Being on the board has provided me the opportunity to get even closer to this important work and to give back to the community that we have called home for 20 years.

As I reflect on the years that my family and I have spent supporting ResourceWest and why we are committed to continuing our support in years to come, what resonates most with us is the fact the work is localized. The staff works closely with local schools, businesses, and organizations to understand and respond to the needs of the community.
As the community and its needs have changed, ResourceWest has evolved its programs to meet those needs, but its mission has stayed the same: supporting individuals and families in the West Metro through collaborative programs and connections to resources as they move toward greater stability.
We strongly believe that the kind of support ResourceWest provides and the commitment from those (like you!) involved in ResourceWest creates communities that thrive and are great places to live, filled with people who care about their neighborhoods.
On behalf of past, current, and future board members: Thank you! We cannot do this work with you.
Welcome New Board Members!

"I am a people person working in Human Services and serving on two nonprofit boards of directors including ResourceWest. I also sit on my city's Economic Development Commission. I'm looking forward to growing with ResourceWest and aiding analyses that could take its community work to the next level. An interesting fact about me is that I have 11 pet tarantulas at home!"

"I'm passionate about making a positive impact on others - from the work I do as an HR leader to parenting my two daughters (8 and 11) to getting involved in the community. In my down time, I enjoy reading and taking trips with my family. As a new member of the board, I look forward to continuing to learn about and support the needs of the community and the amazing ResourceWest team (volunteers and staff)!
